I'm thinking about volunteering.
That's great! but first, assess the time available to commit to volunteering. HDGH requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours and/or four months.
Think about your interests, skills and/or career plans - this will help you decide where you might volunteer.
How old do you have to be to volunteer at HDGH?
If volunteering at the coffee bar you can be as young as 16 years old. However, all other areas require a minimum age of 17 years.
What is the process to volunteer?
- Submit a completed Application and two reference forms to Volunteer Services.
- Attend a placement interview with a Volunteer Services staff member to:
- confirm your availability and the level of commitment you are able to make
- outline your skills and interests
- review volunteer position opportunities and requirements
- establish a suitable volunteer placement
- Attend a general volunteer orientation session.
- Complete specific training for your placement area with an experienced volunteer and/or staff.
How do you decide where to place volunteers in the hospital?
Volunteers are placed according to a department's needs and the suitability of the volunteer. The Volunteer Services Department does not offer placements which may entail clinical practice and/or application.
How long are the volunteer shifts?
Shifts are 4 hours in length. Volunteers usually work one shift per week.
What type of references do I need for my application form?
First, you should try to get references that have known you for some time we recommend a minimum of 3 months. In addition always ask their permission to use them as a reference and be sure to have their current phone numbers.
Please Note: References cannot be members of your family or friends.
Is there free parking for volunteers?
Yes, once a volunteer is accepted they will receive a parking pass.
