Moramos Shrine Club Makes Donation to the Regional Children's Centre
June 25, 2018
WINDSOR, ON - It was 1919 when a handful of men began the journey of the Moramos Shrine Club of Windsor. Today, the club has evolved to include 75 members, host numerous events, and fundraise thousands of dollars.
Shriners International is a non-profit philanthropic society based on the principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. Since its founding in 1870, approximately 350,000 members have joined 195 chapters across the world, helping to establish 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. These passionate men commit to raising at least $700 million dollars each year - and they succeed!
Locally, the Moramos Shrine Club raises significant funds for many programs and organizations including the John McGivney Children's Centre, Windsor Regional Hospital's Pediatric Unit, Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association, the Mocha Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, and countless other programs that support the health of children.
One of their main fundraising initiatives, and the one that brought them to Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare this December, is their annual Christmas Cake Sale. The Shriners have been touring Windsor-Essex, selling their 1,200 fruit cakes, making their last stop at our organization. The cakes contain all Canadian ingredients and are homemade at Linkert Country Bakery located in Wilberforce, Ontario in a quaint cabin by the lake.
Today, the Moramos Shrine Club presented a cheque for $1500 in support of the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare's Regional Children's Centre. "On behalf of the HDGH Regional Children's Centre, we are grateful to the members of our local club for this very generous donation" explained Bill Marra, Vice President External Affairs and Executive Director of the Changing Lives Together Foundation. "We very much look forward to having them back."
